Editorial standards
These standards apply to everything SurfGirl publishes: reviews, buying guides, comparisons, deal roundups and buyer news. They exist so readers can trust that what we say is accurate, sourced and independent of who pays us.
Accuracy
- Every factual claim has a source. Prices, specifications, ratings, policy terms, safety data and quotes come from sources we have read, and those sources are listed in the References section of each page.
- No invented details. We do not estimate or fill in prices, specifications, ratings or quotes. If a fact cannot be confirmed, we leave it out or say it is unconfirmed.
- Dates matter. Prices and deals are tied to the date we checked them. Policies are described as they were published on the date shown.
- Manufacturer claims are labeled. Figures such as coverage area, runtime or battery life are presented as the maker's claims unless an independent source supports them.
Honesty about our methods
SurfGirl is a research-based publication. We do not claim to have handled, used or tried a product unless that actually happened and the page explains how. Reviews say clearly that they are based on published specifications, owner reviews, policies and independent data. Our how we research page explains our sources in detail.
Independence
- Brands and retailers cannot pay for coverage, ratings, rankings or favorable wording.
- We include drawbacks, complaints and recalls where the sources support them, including for brands we have affiliate relationships with.
- Brands do not review or approve our pages before publication.
Affiliate links
Some links on SurfGirl are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Pages with affiliate links include an editorial disclosure. Commissions do not decide which products or retailers we cover. See our affiliate and commercial disclosure.
Safety and recalls
When a product we cover is recalled, we link to the official recall notice and update related pages. Safety guidance comes from regulators and recognized safety organizations, not from marketing material.
Language
We write plainly. We avoid hype, exaggerated claims and pressure tactics such as false urgency. Deal language is limited to what the seller's page supports.
Images
We use official brand images, public domain government images and original illustrations made for SurfGirl. Original illustrations are decorative and are not presented as photos of real products.
Corrections and updates
When a material fact is wrong, we fix it and add a dated correction note, following our corrections policy. We do not change a page's date only to make it look new. Readers can report errors through our contact page.
