The Children's Place
US children's clothing retailer selling baby, kids' and tween apparel, shoes and accessories online and in stores.
What this guide covers
Kids outgrow clothes faster than any return window, which is why the fine print at The Children's Place matters more than it does at most clothing stores. The retailer is running a big early Black Friday sale right now, with its homepage advertising 60% off the entire site when we checked on October 30, 2026, and deep discounts change the rules on what you can send back. This guide covers The Children's Place return and exchange policy, price adjustments and the My Place Rewards loyalty program, all based on the company's own help pages, so you can stock up without getting stuck with the wrong sizes.

The 45-day return window
The Children's Place accepts eligible merchandise for return or exchange within 45 days of the purchase date. After 45 days, returns and exchanges are not accepted. To qualify, items must:
- be unwashed, unaltered and unworn;
- have the original price tags attached;
- come with a printed, gift or digital receipt (the shipping confirmation email or your online account counts);
- be returned in the country where they were bought.
The company decides, at its discretion, whether an item meets the unwashed and unworn standard, so the simplest rule is: do not wash anything, and do not remove tags, until you know it fits.
What you cannot return
Some purchases are final. The Children's Place lists these as not eligible for return or exchange:
- clearance items;
- items marked Final Sale;
- health and beauty accessories;
- pillows;
- jewelry dishes.
During big sales this is the line to watch. A sitewide percentage discount on regular merchandise is not the same as clearance, but clearance markdowns run alongside it. Check whether an item is labeled clearance or Final Sale before you buy multiple sizes "just in case."
Merchandise bought through third-party platforms or sellers, such as marketplace storefronts, cannot be returned through The Children's Place or Gymboree.
Returning online orders
You can return online purchases, including online exclusive styles, by mail or at any The Children's Place store. Gymboree-branded items can go back to Gymboree-only stores, but The Children's Place items cannot. Original shipping charges are not refunded.
By mail with the prepaid label: start the return in your account or from the shipping confirmation email, generate a label or carrier QR code, and drop off the package. Note the fee rules:
- $7.00 is deducted from your refund when you use the prepaid label.
- For orders or items under $260, the $7.00 is waived if you choose merchandise credit instead of a refund to your card.
- Orders or items under $7.00 are not eligible for prepaid labels or merchandise credit, but can still be returned in store at no cost.
With your own carrier: you can ship to The Children's Place Returns Department, 1377 Airport Road, Ft. Payne, AL 35968. You pay the shipping, and the company recommends a trackable method because it is not responsible for lost packages.
In store: free, and usually faster. Find the order in your account, choose "Initiate a Return" and follow the instructions for a store return.
Exchanges are narrower than returns
Exchanges are in store only, for the same item and color in a different size, subject to stock. Online orders and in-store purchases cannot be exchanged by mail, and online exclusive styles cannot be exchanged at all; they can only be returned. Anything else, such as swapping to a different color, is processed as a return and a new purchase.
For parents buying ahead, that means the cheapest way to handle a wrong size is a trip to a store with the receipt and the tags still on.
Refund timing
The help center gives these typical timeframes:
- Returns by mail: refunds are generally processed within 7 to 10 business days after the return arrives. Merchandise credits for gift card purchases are typically emailed within two weeks.
- Returns in store: refunds are generally processed within 3 to 5 business days, and merchandise credits for gift card purchases are issued immediately.
Gifts returned in store receive merchandise credit; gifts returned by mail are refunded to the original purchaser's payment method.
Price adjustments: only for full-price buys
The Children's Place offers a one-time price adjustment on full-price purchases only, within 7 days of the date on your receipt. Adjustments are not available for Final Sale, sale, discounted or third-party marketplace purchases. For online orders, contact customer service; stores cannot adjust online orders. In-store purchases can be adjusted at any store with the receipt.
In practice, this rarely helps during a sitewide sale, because almost everything is already discounted. It is useful if you buy something at full price right before a promotion starts.

My Place Rewards, explained
My Place Rewards is the store's free loyalty program. According to the program page:
- Earning: members (other than My Place Rewards credit card members, who have their own earning terms) earn 1 point per $1 spent, rounded to the nearest dollar, on eligible purchases in US and Puerto Rico stores, at childrensplace.com and gymboree.com, and in the official apps.
- Redeeming: every 100 points can be redeemed for a $5 discount, up to a maximum of $50 per day.
- Tiers: status (Insider, Stylist and Icon) is based on your total spend on eligible purchases during a 12-month "Loyalty Year". Reaching a higher tier starts a new Loyalty Year from that purchase.
- Perks by tier: Stylist and Icon members can choose dates to earn accelerated points a set number of times each Loyalty Year; Stylist members, for example, can earn double points twice per year. There is also a birthday discount and a free gift-wrap kit offer, with limits that vary by tier.
- What does not count: purchases through third-party storefronts, bulk purchases, and credit card balance transfers, interest and fees.
At 1 point per dollar and $5 per 100 points, the base return is about 5% back in store discounts. That stacks nicely on top of sale prices, so it is worth joining before a big order.
Buying ahead for growing kids
Sale season tempts parents to buy for the next six months at once. The 45-day window makes that a calculated bet rather than a sure thing. A practical approach is to split the order. Buy what fits now in the current size, and buy one size up only for items you are confident about, such as basics in colors your child already wears. Try the larger sizes on as soon as the parcel arrives, even if they are meant for spring, and return anything that is clearly off while you still can. Write the 45-day date on the receipt or in your phone calendar the day you order.
Getting the most from the current sale
When we checked on October 30, 2026, the homepage showed 60% off the entire site with a countdown, Black Friday deals from $3.99, pajama pants at $7.99, $17.99 puffers and free shipping on orders of $30 or more, or free ship-to-store. We cover the details in our news piece on The Children's Place early Black Friday sale. A few tactics help:
- Sign in first so the order earns points and the receipt lives in your account.
- Check each item's label for clearance or Final Sale before buying multiple sizes.
- Choose ship-to-store or a $30+ basket to avoid shipping fees.
- Plan exchanges in store, since exchanges cannot be done by mail.
- Keep tags on until each child has tried things on.
