Ulta Beauty's early Black Friday deals are live, with weekly offers of up to 50% off on its deals page when we checked on October 30, 2026. Before you fill a bag, it pays to understand the two programs that quietly change what you spend: Ulta Beauty Rewards, the free points program, and Ulta's return policy, which is unusually generous for beauty but has firm cut-off dates. This guide explains both using Ulta's own rewards FAQ and guest services pages, and shows how to time a big order so the points work hardest.

How Ulta Beauty Rewards works

Ulta Beauty Rewards is free to join and is not a credit card. Members earn points on qualifying purchases and beauty services in stores, in the app and at ulta.com. Ulta's site currently promotes $5 for joining, birthday perks and member offers.

Earning. Members earn 1 point for every $1 spent. Higher tiers earn faster:

  • Platinum members earn 1.25 points per $1 (25% more).
  • Diamond members earn 1.5 points per $1 (50% more).

Bonus points stack. Ulta says its bonus-point offers can be combined, while base points are earned only once. Its own example: buying $25 of a skin care product during a 2X offer on that product, plus a 3X offer on the whole purchase, earns 25 base points + 25 bonus + 50 bonus = 100 points. Members also earn double points on qualifying purchases during their birthday month and receive a birthday gift coupon while quantities last.

Forgot to scan? If a purchase is missing from your account, Ulta's guest services page says to log in and complete the missing-transaction form within 30 days of the purchase to claim the points.

What points are worth

You can start redeeming at 100 points. Ulta's redemption table is tiered, so larger redemptions are worth more per point:

Points Dollars off
100 $3.00
250 $8.00
500 $17.50
750 $30.00
1,000 $50.00
2,000 $125.00

Do the division and the value jumps sharply: 100 points are worth 3 cents each, 1,000 points are worth 5 cents each, and 2,000 points are worth 6.25 cents each. Saving up for the 1,000 or 2,000 level roughly doubles the value of each point compared with redeeming at 100.

There are caps. Ulta says you can redeem up to 4,000 points in a single online purchase and up to 10,000 points in a single in-store purchase. Points can be combined with other discounts and coupons and with most payment methods, except online transactions using AfterPay. Gift cards, taxes, tips, charitable donations, shipping and fees are excluded from redemption.

A worked example

Take a regular member who spends $60 a month at Ulta, or $720 a year. At the base rate of 1 point per dollar, that earns at least 720 points in a year before any bonus offers (a little more once Platinum kicks in, as explained below). For simplicity, use 720. Redeemed as seven separate 100-point rewards, those points are worth $21. Held and redeemed as 500 points plus 100 points plus 100 points, they are worth $23.50. If a few bonus-point events push the total to 1,000 points, the same year of shopping is worth $50 off. The member also crosses the $500 Platinum threshold partway through the year, after which every dollar earns 1.25 points and points stop expiring while status lasts. The lesson is simple: consolidate your beauty spending in one account, let points build to the larger tiers, and keep an eye on the expiration date shown on your receipt.

When points expire

For regular members, points expire at the end of the quarter one year after the date they were earned. Your receipt, ulta.com/rewards and the member statement email show the next expiration date. Platinum and Diamond members have a major advantage: points do not expire as long as that status is maintained each calendar year.

Platinum and Diamond: how to qualify

Status is based on qualifying spending in a calendar year, January through December:

  • Platinum: spend $500 in a calendar year. Status starts immediately and lasts for the rest of that year plus the whole following year.
  • Diamond: spend $1,200 in a calendar year. Ulta upgrades you automatically.

Beyond faster earning and non-expiring points, Platinum members get an extra birthday perk and more bonus offers. Diamond members also get everyday free shipping on Ulta Beauty orders of $25 or more (excluding Alaska and Hawaii), a full-size gift for qualifying and a coupon for $25 off a qualifying beauty service.

The calendar-year rule creates a timing opportunity in November and December. If you are close to $500 or $1,200 for 2026, a holiday order that crosses the threshold gives you that status for the rest of 2026 and all of 2027. If you are far away, spreading purchases across the new year does not help much.

The return policy: 30 days for a refund, 60 for credit

Ulta's guest services page says you can return most new or gently used products within 30 days of the original purchase date for a refund to the original form of payment. Returns from day 31 to day 60 are eligible for merchandise credit. A few conditions apply:

  • Returns must include all original components.
  • Proof of purchase is required unless Ulta can verify the purchase in its system, which is easier if you shop as a signed-in rewards member.
  • Ulta requires a government-issued physical ID and a phone number or email for any return, and may limit returns if it suspects abuse.
  • Gift receipt returns within 60 days can be exchanged for a product of equal or lesser value, or returned for merchandise credit.
  • Purchases made with an Ulta gift card are refunded as a new gift card. Gift cards themselves cannot be returned.
  • Single-use coupons used on the original purchase are not returned, and coupons, offers and points do not apply to past purchases. Ulta also says you may not return products to repurchase them at a lower price.

The "gently used" wording is what sets Ulta apart: trying a foundation shade once does not automatically disqualify a return. The 30-day line matters, though, because after it you get store credit rather than your money back.

Using it all during the sale

Our news piece on Ulta's early Black Friday weekly deals covers what Ulta was advertising on October 30, 2026, including the 5-for-$10 mix-and-match offer and free same-day delivery on select orders of $35 or more through October 31. A few tactics help you get more from it:

  1. Sign in before checkout, so points post and returns can be verified without a paper receipt.
  2. Watch for bonus-point offers on products you already use; they stack.
  3. Bank points for a bigger redemption if you can; 1,000 points buy $50, while ten separate redemptions of 100 points buy only $30.
  4. Check your calendar-year spend if you are near Platinum or Diamond.
  5. Test new products early, so a shade or formula that does not work goes back inside the 30-day refund window.
  6. Spend credit before points expire, especially if you are not Platinum or Diamond.
