If you bought a two-pack of Gobi Heat rechargeable hand warmers, stop using them: the US Consumer Product Safety Commission says the lithium-ion battery and electronics in model UT3053 can overheat and catch fire. The recall was announced on October 1, 2026, but it matters most now, as people pull winter gear out of storage.

How to tell if yours is affected
The recalled warmers are black with gray, sold as a pair that snaps together magnetically, with a charging cable, a USB-C port, LED indicator lights on a hard plastic shell and a silicone lanyard. "Gobi Heat" is printed on top and on the box, and the model number UT3053 is on the underside. If the underside shows that number, it is part of the recall.
What to do
- Stop using and charging the warmers. Do not leave them plugged in.
- Get a claim number at gobiheat.com/pages/handwarmer-recall (or click "Recall Information" at the top of gobiheat.com).
- Mark the product. Write "Recalled" on each warmer with a permanent marker.
- Send proof. Email a photo showing the marking and the model number to recall@gobiheat.com.
- Choose your remedy: a full refund, or store credit equal to 120% of what you paid.
- Dispose of it as hazardous waste. Do not put it in household trash, curbside recycling or the battery drop-off boxes at stores. Call your local household hazardous waste center first and ask whether it takes recalled lithium-ion batteries.
Questions: Gobi Heat at 888-462-4743, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.
Not the only hand warmer recall
The same day, Kobayashi recalled about 77,000 HotHands-branded rechargeable warmers, model H163650 (white with orange), for the same overheating hazard, with a full refund. Those were sold at Bass Pro Shops, Meijer, Target, The Home Depot and on Amazon from July 2025 through August 2026 for $30 to $40. Owners should start at hothands.com/recall-notice-rechargeable or call 866-534-9986. CPSC says only electric rechargeable HotHands warmers with the white logo are covered.
Our take
Two recalls of near-identical rechargeable warmers in one day is a reminder that these gadgets pack a lithium-ion cell into something you hold against your skin and stuff in a pocket. If you replace them, look for a model with a recognized safety certification for its battery, charge it only with a suitable USB-C charger on a hard surface, and do not charge it overnight or under a pillow. The store-credit option from Gobi Heat is worth 20% more on paper, but it only makes sense if you trust the brand's next product; the refund leaves you free to shop elsewhere. Our rechargeable hand warmer battery safety guide covers safer charging habits and how to dispose of lithium-ion batteries.
