Apple refreshed its entry 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip on October 27, 2026. Prices start at $1,999, pre-orders began October 28 in 35 countries and regions including the US, and the laptop reaches customers and stores on Friday, November 6. It keeps the familiar design and Liquid Retina XDR screen, so the story here is the chip, faster wireless and battery life.

What changed from M5
Apple claims up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster on-device AI workloads than M5, and a Neural Engine up to 1.9x faster. In specific apps, Apple quotes about 1.2x to 1.3x gains over the M5 model in Blender, Affinity, Xcode builds and LLM prompt processing. Against a 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, the gains rise to up to 11.7x in Blender ray-traced rendering and up to 13x in LLM time to first token.
Our take
For M5 owners, a 1.2x to 1.3x gain is not a reason to upgrade. For anyone on M1 or an Intel Mac, this is the sensible pro laptop: Apple notes that M1 and Intel upgraders also gain 16GB standard memory and an additional Thunderbolt port, plus battery life that Apple rates at up to 24 hours.
Do not confuse it with the PROLED XDR MacBook Pro Apple announced a day later. That model has an OLED touchscreen and M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, starts at $2,899, and adds Thunderbolt 5. Unless you need its display, touch or higher memory ceilings, the M6 model is the better value. The 32GB memory cap is the main limit for people who want to run larger local AI models.
