What is new this week

The October 30 expansion matters most to readers outside the launch countries, who until now had to import the phone. If you are in Europe and your country was not in the first group, check your local Apple Store from October 30. In the US, Apple is pairing the launch with trade-in credit of $175 to $885 for an eligible iPhone 13 or later, and carrier offers of up to $1,200 when trading in an iPhone 14 Pro Max or later.

Our take

At $1,999, iPhone Duo is a big spend, and its value depends on whether you will actually use the big inner screen. For reading, video, spreadsheets and split-screen work, a 7.6-inch display in your pocket is a genuine change in how a phone gets used. If your phone time is mostly messages, photos and social apps, the outer display already covers that, and a conventional iPhone such as iPhone 18 Pro may suit you better.

Two cautions. First-generation hardware tends to improve quickly, and hinge durability only shows up after months of use, so early buyers are taking on some risk. And carrier "up to" credits usually require a specific plan and trade-in, so read the terms before counting on the full amount.

Our iPhone Duo buying guide covers storage, cases, trade-in and whether a foldable suits the way you use a phone.
