What this guide covers
Apple's first foldable phone is now widely available. The iPhone Duo reached customers in more than 70 countries and regions on October 23, 2026, and 28 more countries and regions began sales on October 30. It starts at $1,999, so it is a purchase worth planning carefully.
This guide explains what the Duo actually offers, how to choose storage, which accessories make sense, how to bring the price down, and who should wait. Specifications and prices are from Apple's announcement, its technical specifications page and its store, checked October 30, 2026. We have not used an iPhone Duo ourselves, so any comment on how it feels in daily use is clearly attributed or framed as a question for reviews.

What you get for $1,999
Two screens. Unfolded, the inner display measures 7.6 inches at 1878 by 2670 pixels and 430 ppi, with nano-texture glass. Closed, the outer display is 5.4 inches at 1398 by 2034 pixels and 460 ppi. Both run at up to 120Hz, with 1000 nits typical brightness, 1600 nits peak for HDR and 3000 nits outdoors. Apple says the outer screen has 90 percent of the screen area of iPhone 18 Pro, and the inner screen is 50 percent larger than iPhone 18 Pro Max.
A thin, light body. Open, it is 5.2 mm thick; closed, 11.3 mm. It weighs 254 grams and is made of grade 5 titanium in star white or night sky. Apple rates it IP68 to a depth of 6 meters. The hinge has more than 100 components, and the screen uses Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says has three times the scratch resistance.
Cameras. A 48MP Fusion Main camera with a 2x optical-quality telephoto option, a 48MP Ultra Wide with macro, a Center Stage front camera and an under-display FaceTime camera. Video goes up to 4K at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision.
Performance and battery. The A20 Pro chip has a vapor chamber for cooling, and Apple claims 35 percent better sustained performance than iPhone 17 Pro. Two batteries give up to 24 hours of mixed use, 31 hours of video playback on the inner screen or 44 hours on the outer one. Apple says it charges to 50 percent in about 20 minutes wired, or about 30 minutes on MagSafe or Qi2.
Other details. Touch ID is built into the side button, not Face ID. It has Camera Control, Apple's N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and the C2 modem, with mmWave in the US. It is eSIM only. It supports Split View for two apps side by side and Apple Pencil (USB-C), and it ships with iOS 27.1.
Step 1: choose storage
The Duo comes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Because it can shoot 4K120 Dolby Vision and will often be used as a small tablet for films and documents, storage fills faster than on a normal phone.
- 256GB: enough if you use iCloud Photos and stream most video.
- 512GB: the safer choice for people who shoot a lot of video or download content for flights.
- 1TB or 2TB: for creators who edit on the phone or keep large libraries offline.
Apple Intelligence also takes space. Apple's support page says the next generation of Apple Intelligence can use up to 14GB on iPhone Duo.

Step 2: protect it
A foldable has more to protect than a normal phone: a hinge, an inner screen and an outer screen. Apple sells two first-party cases. The Case costs $79 in navy blue or sand. The Folio costs $129 in navy blue or taupe.

Given the price, AppleCare is worth pricing at checkout. AppleCare plans cover accidental damage such as drops and spills, and in some markets AppleCare One can cover several devices under one plan. Check the service fees Apple lists for the Duo's screens before you buy, so you know what a repair would cost with and without coverage.
Step 3: bring the price down
Apple Trade In. Apple offered $175 to $885 in credit for an iPhone 13 or newer at launch. Apple also accepts some Samsung and Google phones. Apple says a trade-in estimate is valid for 14 days after you receive your new device.
Carrier offers. At launch Apple advertised carrier credits of up to $1,200 when trading in an iPhone 14 Pro Max or newer. Carrier credits usually arrive as monthly bill credits that require you to keep an eligible plan, so read the terms.
Monthly payments. Apple Card Monthly Installments spread $1,999 over 24 months at $83.29 a month at 0 percent APR in the US.
Apple Upgrade. Apple's lease program, provided by Klarna, starts at $57.99 a month, with 12- or 24-month terms for iPhone. It is a lease rather than a purchase, AppleCare is not included, and Apple says you will not pay more than the full price if you return the device in good condition. Our Apple buying guide compares these options in detail.
Apple One. New Duo buyers get three months of Apple One free.
Step 4: pick a color and plan your setup
The Duo comes in two titanium finishes, star white and night sky. Because the phone is eSIM only, check with your carrier that eSIM transfer works for your plan before launch day, especially if you travel with a local SIM card abroad. If you use an Apple Pencil (USB-C) with an iPad, the same pencil works on the Duo's inner screen, which is useful for signing documents and quick sketches. Finally, budget time for setup: Apple Intelligence models download after you update, and they need free space.
Step 5: check that a foldable suits you
The Duo makes sense if you regularly wish your phone were a tablet: reading long documents, editing photos, watching video on a plane, or running two apps side by side. It also replaces two devices for some people, which partly offsets its price.
It makes less sense if you mainly message, browse and take photos. An iPhone 18 Pro does those things at a lower price, with a more familiar design and Face ID rather than Touch ID. If you want a larger screen for reading and drawing but not in your pocket, the new iPad mini starts at $699; our iPad mini buying guide covers it.
Questions for reviews
Independent reviews will answer the questions that specifications cannot: how visible the crease is, how the hinge holds up after months of opening and closing, how the under-display FaceTime camera compares with a normal front camera, and whether the 24-hour battery claim survives heavy use of the inner screen. We would wait for at least a few long-term reports if durability is your main concern.
Siri AI on iPhone Duo
The Duo supports Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, which is in beta. As of iOS 27.2, Siri AI works in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. See our Siri AI language guide for setup and limits, including the EU exception.
Verdict
If you want a foldable and can afford it, the 512GB model with the Folio or Case and AppleCare is the sensible configuration, and a trade-in or carrier credit can take a large bite out of the price. If you are curious but unsure, wait for long-term reviews: the first generation of any new form factor carries more risk than a regular iPhone.
