PROLED MacBook Pro vs the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6

Apple announced a separate, cheaper 14-inch MacBook Pro with the base M6 chip one day earlier, which is easy to confuse with this model.

Our take

This is the bigger story of Apple's October Mac launches. Touch is a first for the Mac, and the OLED panel with Adobe RGB coverage is aimed squarely at photographers, colorists and video editors who would otherwise carry a separate reference monitor.

The naming is the trap. The PROLED models use M5 Pro and M5 Max, while the cheaper 14-inch uses the newer base M6. For most people, the M6 model at $1,999 will be the better value; the PROLED machines make sense when the display, touch, Thunderbolt 5 or high memory ceilings are the point.
