What this guide covers
Apple Creator Studio is Apple's subscription for creative software. For $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the US, it bundles Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Motion, Compressor and MainStage, along with premium content and AI features in Keynote, Pages, Numbers and Freeform. On October 27, 2026, Apple announced a major update that arrives on the App Store in November as a free update for existing subscribers.
This guide explains what the subscription includes, what the update adds, how much it costs in each plan, and when buying the apps once makes more sense. Prices and features are from Apple's announcement and its Creator Studio page as of October 30, 2026. We have not used the updated apps, which are not out yet, so feature descriptions are Apple's.

What you get
Video. Final Cut Pro for Mac and iPad, plus Motion for motion graphics and Compressor for exporting in professional formats. Apple's page highlights Visual Search and Transcript Search for finding shots and sound bites, the Magnetic Timeline, multicam editing and Beat Detection.
Music. Logic Pro for Mac and iPad, with AI Session Players for drums, bass, keyboard and synth, Stem Splitter, Mastering Assistant and a large royalty-free Sound Library. MainStage, for live performance, is also included.
Images and design. Pixelmator Pro, with nondestructive editing, templates and mock-ups, and intelligent tools for background removal, repair and enhancement.
Productivity. Keynote, Pages, Numbers and Freeform remain free for everyone. Subscribers get premium templates and themes, the Content Hub library of Apple-curated photos, illustrations and graphics, and extra AI features such as slide notes generated from a whole presentation and Super Resolution upscaling of images.
Sharing. With Family Sharing, up to five other people can use your subscription.

What the November update adds
Final Cut Pro for Mac gains built-in MotionVFX content: thousands of templates, titles, transitions and graphics, plus tools for rotoscoping, tracking and color grading. The Content Hub, now with stock video, opens inside the app. You can send any image from the timeline to Pixelmator Pro and have changes saved back to the project automatically. Apple also lists more keyframe easing options, the ability to disconnect clips from the primary storyline, and 23 new transcription languages.
Motion gets MotionVFX plug-ins for color grading, 3D camera tracking and one-click selection, image generation from text, and a new Displacement filter. Compressor can encode Cinematic mode video from iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.
Logic Pro gets a new design and, on Mac, an intelligent assistant in beta that Apple says can help start a song, set up a vocal track from a single prompt or refine a project. It uses a mix of Apple-built and third-party models. The redesigned Browser gathers loops, instruments and patches in one place, tags sounds automatically with on-device music understanding, and includes a Splice library. Stem Splitter can now isolate, replace or rebalance drum parts, and there is a new Producer Pack from salsa producer Sergio George.
Pixelmator Pro adds Generate Fill: circle part of an image, describe the change, and the app fills it to match lighting, perspective and texture, with Super Resolution keeping the result sharp.

Keynote, Pages and Numbers get an intelligent assistant in beta, built on Apple models and OpenAI, that understands the document you are working in. Apple says it helps design and animate slides in Keynote, draft and restructure text in Pages, and calculate, chart and organize data in Numbers. Model Context Protocol support lets outside AI agents and tools read content, make edits and run automated actions in these apps. Keynote also adds the open, JSON-based .keyx format.
Freeform gets text styles and board background colors, with Pixelmator Pro editing and shape generation from text arriving in December.
How much it costs
| Plan | Price (US) |
|---|---|
| Monthly | $12.99 |
| Yearly | $129 |
| Education, monthly | $2.99 |
| Education, yearly | $29.99 |
| Free trial | One month for new subscribers |
| With a new Mac or qualifying iPad | Three months free |
Education pricing is for college students and educators. Apple sells Creator Studio on the App Store as a universal purchase, so one subscription covers the apps on Mac and iPad.
Subscribe or buy the apps once?
Apple still sells one-time-purchase Mac versions of the pro apps, and existing owners can keep using what they bought:
| App | One-time price |
|---|---|
| Final Cut Pro | $299.99 |
| Logic Pro | $199.99 |
| Pixelmator Pro | $49.99 |
| Motion | $49.99 |
| Compressor | $49.99 |
| MainStage | $29.99 |
Buying all six once costs $679.94. At $129 a year, the subscription costs the same after a little over five years. A few rules of thumb follow from that:
- If you only need one app, for example Logic Pro, buying it once at $199.99 is cheaper than the subscription within about a year and a half.
- If you need two or more pro apps, the subscription is competitive, and it adds the MotionVFX content, the Content Hub and the AI features, which the one-time versions do not include.
- If you are a student or teacher, $29.99 a year is very hard to beat.
- If you share with family, the subscription covers up to six people in total.
The trade-off is control: if you stop subscribing, you lose access to the subscription content and features. Owners of the one-time apps keep them.
Who it suits
Video creators and YouTubers. Final Cut Pro, Motion and Compressor together are the core of the bundle, and the MotionVFX content is the update's headline for this group, since premium effects packs are often sold separately.
Musicians and podcasters. Logic Pro and MainStage cover recording, production and live performance. The new Browser and drum Stem Splitter are aimed at producers working with samples and remixes, and Voice Memo Studio Sound helps clean up quick recordings made on a supported iPhone before you finish them in Logic Pro.
Designers and social media managers. Pixelmator Pro's templates and the new Generate Fill cover everyday image work, and the premium Keynote and Pages templates help with presentations and documents.
Office users. If you only want the AI assistants in Keynote, Pages and Numbers, remember that the apps themselves stay free; you would be paying mainly for the assistant, the templates and the Content Hub.
How to get started
All the apps download from the App Store. New subscribers get a one-month free trial, so the sensible approach is to start the trial when the November update lands, test the features you care about, and cancel before renewal if it does not fit your work.
Which Mac to run it on
Check each app's App Store listing for system requirements. Heavy video and music work benefits from more memory and a better screen. The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, with up to 128GB of memory and a 2000-nit display that covers P3 and Adobe RGB, is Apple's laptop aimed at this kind of work, and new Mac buyers get three months of Creator Studio free. Our iMac vs MacBook Pro comparison compares the three new Macs, and our Apple buying guide explains education pricing and other savings.
Verdict
Creator Studio is good value if you use more than one of Apple's pro apps, or if you qualify for education pricing. The November update makes it stronger, mainly through MotionVFX content in Final Cut Pro and the Logic Pro Browser, while the AI assistants are still beta features to try rather than rely on. If you use only one app, buying it once remains the cheaper path.
