ThermoWorks sells most of its thermometers directly from its own website, and buying there comes with a specific set of rules: flat-rate shipping tiers, a 30-day exchange window, product-by-product warranties and a few services most kitchen brands don't offer, such as accredited calibration. This guide walks through each policy as ThermoWorks publishes it, with current prices from thermoworks.com on November 5, 2026, so you know what to expect before you check out.

Quick answers

  • Standard shipping: $8.95 flat rate for US orders up to 5 lbs, 2 to 5 business days.
  • Faster options: $16.95 for 2 business days and $35.95 for 1 business day (end of day), both flat rate up to 5 lbs. A by-noon next-day option is priced by weight.
  • Same-day dispatch: ThermoWorks says it tries to ship orders received by 4:00 PM Mountain time the same business day (US and Canada).
  • Returns: most unused products can be exchanged within 30 days in original packaging, but only if you bought directly from ThermoWorks.
  • Warranty: most instruments carry two years, a few carry five, other products one year, and probes six months.
  • Support hours: live chat and phone Monday to Friday 6am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm, Mountain Time.

Shipping: costs, speed and carriers

ThermoWorks publishes a simple flat-rate table for US orders. Standard shipping is $8.95 for orders up to 5 lbs and takes 2 to 5 business days. Orders over 5 lbs move to Standard Ground, which also lists 2 to 5 business days depending on distance. Two-day delivery is $16.95 and next-business-day delivery by end of day is $35.95, again flat rate up to 5 lbs. A next-day "by noon" service is available but priced on weight. All prices are in US dollars.

Because almost every thermometer, probe and accessory weighs well under 5 lbs, most home cooks will pay one of those three flat rates rather than a weight-based charge. ThermoWorks' shipping calculator in the cart shows the exact options once you enter a ZIP code.

A few details are worth knowing:

  • Carriers. ThermoWorks uses USPS, UPS and FedEx. UPS and FedEx need a physical address, so online orders to PO Boxes and APO addresses are switched to USPS for the same shipping price. You can also call 1-800-393-6434 to request USPS specifically.
  • Weekends and holidays. Delivery estimates exclude holidays, and orders placed on Saturday or Sunday ship on Monday.
  • Late express orders. ThermoWorks says it cannot guarantee arrival dates because it does not control the carriers, but if you paid for 2-day or 1-day flat-rate shipping and the order arrives late, it can refund the difference between what you paid and the standard flat rate.
  • Delivery protection. The company says it covers lost or damaged packages on US flat-rate shipments.

If you are buying a thermometer for Thanksgiving, the 4:00 PM Mountain cutoff and the weekend rule are the two things that decide whether a standard order arrives in time. Our guide to where to put the thermometer in a turkey covers what to do once it arrives.

Canada and international orders

Canadian buyers get a discounted "Standard Canada" service starting at $21.95, with typical delivery of 4 to 8 business days from ThermoWorks' warehouse in American Fork, Utah. Local taxes and duties are calculated at checkout and paid in advance by ThermoWorks, so there is nothing extra to pay the carrier on delivery. Packages are insured and tracked. If you choose FedEx Worldwide instead, broker fees, duties and taxes are collected on delivery.

ThermoWorks also accepts international orders, but the same-day shipping goal does not apply to them, the company may ask for extra information before shipping, and local duty, taxes and brokerage fees are the buyer's responsibility. ThermoWorks says it cannot quote those fees and that some products cannot be shipped to some countries.

Returns and exchanges

ThermoWorks' returns page is short but strict. Only products purchased directly from ThermoWorks are eligible for exchanges, returns or store credit. To start, you contact the company by phone, chat or email; there is no self-service return form on the page.

Most unused products can be exchanged within 30 days of purchase if they are in their original packaging and in resellable condition. ThermoWorks gives examples such as swapping for a different size or color, or for a similar model or configuration of the same product.

The page also lists what can cost you money:

  • A restocking fee may be charged if an item comes back without a return authorization number, damaged, worn, or missing parts or packaging.
  • Clothing must be new with all tags attached.
  • Custom or special-order products, shipping charges and calibration services are non-refundable.

Two practical points follow. First, keep the box until you are sure about a purchase, because original packaging is a condition of the exchange window. Second, if you bought a ThermoWorks product from a store or another dealer, ThermoWorks tells you not to take it back to that store for a warranty problem; contact ThermoWorks directly instead.

Warranty: how long each product is covered

According to ThermoWorks' warranty summary, most of its instruments carry a two-year warranty against defects in components or workmanship, a few carry five-year warranties, and all other products are covered for one year. During the warranty period, defective products are repaired or replaced without charge at ThermoWorks' discretion.

Probes are the important exception. They carry a six-month warranty, and that six-month period may also apply to a probe that is built into an instrument. That matters for leave-in alarm thermometers like the Smoke ($109.00) and Signals ($249.00), where the probes are the part most likely to wear out.

The flagship instant-read models sit at the top of the range: ThermoWorks lists a five-year warranty for the Thermapen ONE, which was on closeout at $74.00 (compare-at $115.00) on November 5, 2026. Our Thermapen ONE review looks at whether that closeout price is worth it, and our ThermoWorks buyer's FAQ compares the warranty terms across the main models.

If a thermometer seems to be malfunctioning, ThermoWorks asks you to call technical support first for troubleshooting before it discusses warranty repair or replacement. Return authorizations for repairs are requested through techsupport@thermoworks.com, and you can follow up on a repair by phone or by email with your case number.

Calibration services

This is where ThermoWorks differs from most consumer kitchen brands. It runs a calibration laboratory in Utah that it says is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by A2LA, providing NIST-traceable calibrations with documented results.

According to the calibration page, the lab offers:

  • Probe calibrations from -328 to 1220°F (-200 to 660°C)
  • Meter calibrations from -454 to 3214°F (-270 to 1768°C)
  • System calibrations of a probe and meter together, plus data logger calibrations
  • Infrared calibrations from 5 to 1292°F (-15 to 700°C)
  • Hygrometer calibrations from 10 to 95% humidity

Requests go through a form on the page or calibration@thermoworks.com, and a price list is linked there. Most home cooks will never need an accredited certificate, but restaurants, food-safety programs and labs that must document accuracy can use the same company that sold them the instrument. Remember that calibration services are listed as non-refundable.

Discounts and programs ThermoWorks actually lists

ThermoWorks does not run a points program on its site, but it does list a few ways to pay less or buy differently:

  • Closeouts and sale pricing. Some products show a sale price against a compare-at price. On November 5, 2026, examples included the Thermapen ONE at $74.00 (compare-at $115.00), the RFX MEAT wireless probe at $69.30 (compare-at $99.00) and the 4-probe RFX MEAT starter kit at $272.30 (compare-at $389.00).
  • Culinary education discount. ThermoWorks offers discounts to culinary students and instructors who are currently enrolled in or teach at a culinary program. You apply with a student or faculty email address, and acceptance is at ThermoWorks' discretion.
  • Corporate gifts and volume pricing. The corporate gifts page shows popular gift items with USD prices and says large-volume pricing is available through a form or by calling the sales team at 800-393-6434.

Buying direct vs buying from a retailer

Buying from thermoworks.com gets you the 30-day exchange window, direct access to ThermoWorks' support team and the closeout prices listed on the site. Buying from another retailer means that store's return policy applies to the purchase, not ThermoWorks' exchange policy, because ThermoWorks limits exchanges, returns and store credit to direct purchases.

Warranty claims are a different story. ThermoWorks says all warranty claims are handled by ThermoWorks, including for products bought from authorized dealers, so a defect should be reported to ThermoWorks either way. If you shop elsewhere, stick to authorized dealers and keep your receipt.

Customer support contacts

ThermoWorks lists these contact points on its returns page:

The company describes its support staff as Utah-based.

Bottom line

ThermoWorks' store policies reward planning. Standard shipping is a predictable $8.95 on almost any order, express costs are flat and refundable in part if a shipment is late, and Canadian buyers get duties prepaid. The 30-day exchange window is real but limited to unused items in original packaging bought directly from ThermoWorks, with possible restocking fees otherwise. Warranties run two years on most instruments and up to five on a few flagship models, while probes get six months. If you want the best mix of price and coverage, buy direct, keep the box for 30 days, and register any problem with ThermoWorks' technical support rather than the store where you bought it.
