Bodum sells its French presses, tea presses, double-wall glasses and kitchen gear directly on bodum.com, and the US store has its own rules on shipping, returns and rewards. Some of them are stricter than shoppers might expect from a big-box retailer: returns carry a restocking fee, glass is not covered by the warranty, and a return without an authorization number can cost you half the item's price. This guide sets out the policies Bodum publishes on its US site, so you know what you are signing up for before you order a Chambord or a spare carafe.

Everything below comes from Bodum's own US pages as of November 4, 2026. We have not placed or returned an order ourselves, and policies can change, so check the linked pages in the References before you buy.

The short version

  • Standard shipping is FedEx Ground, 6 to 8 business days. It costs $20 below $65 and is free from $65.
  • Express shipping is FedEx Express, 1 to 3 business days, listed at $33.95 for orders under $200.
  • Delivery area is the 48 contiguous states only. No Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico or other US territories, and no P.O. boxes or APO/FPO/DPO addresses.
  • Returns are accepted within 30 days for unused items, with a 10% restocking fee and a Return Authorization (RA) number.
  • Warranty is one year on manufacturer defects. Glass is not covered.
  • Rewards are called "Beans": 10 Beans per $1 spent, and 50 Beans are worth $1 off.

Shipping costs and delivery times

Bodum's US Shipping Options page lists two services for residents of the forty-eight contiguous states.

Service Carrier Delivery time Price
Standard FedEx Ground 6–8 business days $20.00 on orders from $0; free from $65
Express FedEx Express 1–3 business days $33.95 on orders under $200

The page marks the prices as subject to change, and it does not say what Express costs on orders of $200 or more. The free standard shipping threshold of $65 also appears in the banner at the top of every page of the US store.

Standard shipping takes six to eight business days, which is slower than many online stores. If you are buying a French press as a gift, that matters. An order placed on a Monday may not arrive until the following week. Paying for Express shortens the window to one to three business days.

Where Bodum will not ship

Bodum says it is not currently shipping to residents of American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Marshall Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Hawaii and Alaska. It also cannot deliver to P.O. boxes or APO/FPO/DPO military addresses, because FedEx needs a domestic street address. If you live outside the contiguous US, the shipping FAQ suggests choosing your country from the selector at the top of the homepage. That switches you to a different Bodum store with its own terms.

Returns: 30 days, unused, and an RA number first

Bodum's return policy is the part most worth reading before you order. According to its Warranty & Returns page:

  • You have 30 days to return unused products, counted from the date you received the item.
  • Bodum offers a refund or a replacement, less a 10% restocking fee and any associated shipping charges.
  • Returns and damage caused by misuse or non-household use are not covered, and approval is at Bodum's discretion.

The return process has five steps:

  1. Contact Bodum through the Support button on the site to get a Return Authorization number. Bodum warns that returns with an invalid, expired or missing RA number are subject to a 50% restocking fee.
  2. Print the RA form linked on the page.
  3. Pack the item in your original Bodum.com box or any plain, unmarked cardboard box, removing old labels.
  4. Attach the return label and ship it with a traceable carrier. Keep the tracking number, because Bodum says it is not responsible for items lost or damaged in transit.
  5. Once the return arrives and is inspected, which Bodum says usually happens within 72 hours, the refund is processed. The credit is applied to your original payment method within 7 business days, and your card issuer may take another 2 to 10 business days to post it.

What you cannot return

Bodum lists five kinds of items it will not take back:

  • anything without a return authorization number;
  • used or damaged items;
  • discontinued products;
  • products that are not in their original packaging with all accessories;
  • items more than 30 days past the shipment receipt date.

In practice, that means you should open a French press carefully, keep the box and every part, and decide quickly. Once you have brewed in it, it counts as used.

If your glass arrives broken

This is the rule that surprises people. Bodum's policy says items received with broken glass "are not considered defective products," and that Bodum must be notified of any breakage within five business days. So if a carafe arrives cracked or shattered, contact Bodum support right away rather than waiting until the end of the 30-day window. Take photos of the box and the damage before you throw anything away.

The warranty: one year, glass excluded

All Bodum products carry a limited one-year warranty on manufacturer defects. The same page states plainly that glass is not covered by the warranty, and that you may need to show proof of purchase. Keep your receipt or order confirmation.

For a French press, the glass beaker is the part most likely to fail, so the warranty mainly protects the frame, lid, plunger and other metal or plastic parts. If you break a carafe, you will be buying a replacement.

Spare carafes and parts

Bodum's FAQ answers the broken-beaker question directly: replacements are available to buy online. The Chambord 8-cup product page lists matching spare parts, including:

  • a spare glass for the 8-cup, 1.0 l (34 oz) size, 9.6 cm in diameter and 18 cm high, at $14.99;
  • a filter plate, a cross plate and a spiral plate, each $9.99, which the listings say fit the 4-, 6- and 8-cup coffee makers;
  • a metal nut screw at $2.50, shown as out of stock when we checked.

Before you order, measure your old carafe or check the item number on the box. Bodum sizes its coffee makers in European cups of about 4 oz each, so an "8 cup" press holds about 34 oz, not 64 oz. Buying a spare beaker in the wrong size is an easy mistake.

Beans: how Bodum's rewards work

Bodum calls its reward points "Beans." The Rewards Information page lays out the rules:

  • Joining: create an account at bodum.com and you get 100 Beans for registering.
  • Newsletter: subscribing to Bodum's promotional emails earns 200 Beans.
  • Earning: 10 Beans for every $1 you spend. Bodum's example is a $30 product earning 300 Beans. Beans are calculated on the pre-tax price.
  • Value: 50 Beans = $1.
  • Spending: you can start using Beans once you have 300, and you can cover at most 25% of the cart value with them.
  • Expiry: Beans expire after 180 days.

At the stated rates, 10 Beans per dollar is worth about 20 cents back for every dollar spent, and a $54.99 Chambord would earn roughly 550 Beans, or about $11 toward a later order. That is our arithmetic, not a figure Bodum publishes.

There are limits. Bodum says discounts are not cumulative, so you can use either a voucher, a gift card or Beans on an order, not a mix. Not every product earns Beans. If you pay with Beans, that order earns none back. You also have to be logged in when you buy, both to earn and to spend. Because Beans expire after 180 days, they work best if you plan a second purchase, such as a spare beaker or a set of double-wall glasses, within six months.

Recall check for older presses

If you already own a Bodum French press, check it against the October 2026 recall before you buy parts for it. The recall covers about 5.9 million presses with replaceable 8-cup and 12-cup glass carafes, across models including Chambord, Brazil, Caffettiera and Kenya. The remedy is a free plastic stirring spoon and a warning label, not a refund. Our Bodum recall news report has the details, and our guide to using a glass French press safely after the recall covers how to inspect a carafe. Bodum's US site also links a Recall Information page in its footer.

A pre-order checklist

  1. Check your address. Contiguous US street addresses only.
  2. Decide on speed. Standard is 6 to 8 business days; Express is 1 to 3 days at extra cost.
  3. Think about the $65 line. Adding a spare beaker or filter set may be cheaper than paying $20 shipping.
  4. Log in first so the order earns Beans.
  5. Open the box on arrival and report any broken glass within five business days.
  6. Keep the packaging until you are sure you are keeping the item.
  7. Get an RA number before returning anything, or risk a 50% restocking fee.

Bottom line

Buying direct from Bodum gets you the full range, spare parts that match your press and a rewards program that pays back generously on paper. In return, you accept slow standard shipping, a 10% restocking fee on returns, a strict five-day window to report broken glass and a warranty that does not cover glass. If you might return an item, compare these terms with the store you would otherwise use before you click buy.
