Decathlon is the French sporting goods company behind in-house brands such as Quechua, Forclaz, Simond, Kiprun, Van Rysel, Rockrider, Triban and Riverside. In the US it sells online at decathlon.com, and its pitch is simple: designed-in-house gear at lower prices than many outdoor brands. The policies behind that pitch have a few quirks, though. Free shipping has a minimum and a list of exclusions, some categories cannot be returned at all, premium bikes carry a restocking fee, and warranty length changes from product to product. This guide summarizes Decathlon America's published shipping, returns and warranty policies as of November 2, 2026, so you know what you are signing up for before you check out.

Shipping: the $49 threshold and its exclusions

Decathlon's shipping policy offers free standard shipping on US orders over $49. Gift card and discount amounts count toward that minimum, and the product page tells you whether an item qualifies. Several things are excluded from free shipping:

  • large items and oversized accessories;
  • clearance and sale items;
  • wholesale or pro sale orders.

The important catch is in one sentence of the policy: if any item in your cart does not qualify for free shipping, the whole order is not eligible. If you are mixing a clearance item with full-price gear, check the shipping line at checkout before you pay. Oversized or heavy items can also carry additional shipping charges, and Decathlon says it will contact you directly before processing an order if the shipping cost is exceptionally high.

Expedited shipping costs extra, is shown at checkout and is never free.

How fast orders arrive

Decathlon says it ships all orders on the next business day after they are placed. Orders placed Monday through Thursday ship the next business day, and orders placed Friday through Sunday ship on Monday. From there, orders to California typically arrive within 2 to 4 business days, and orders to other states within 3 to 7 business days. Expedited orders arrive in roughly 2 business days after shipping. You get a tracking number by email when the order leaves the warehouse.

Where Decathlon will not ship

Free and expedited shipping are limited to the 48 contiguous states plus Washington, DC. Decathlon does not currently ship to Alaska, Hawaii or US territories, and APO/FPO addresses are not included. Once an order is marked as delivered, Decathlon says it is not responsible for lost or stolen packages, and it suggests checking with the carrier or filing a claim with the shipping provider; customer service can help if needed.

Returns: 30 days, with real exceptions

Decathlon's return policy applies to Decathlon America purchases only. You can return or exchange an item within 30 days of purchase if you changed your mind, need another size, or the product did not meet your expectations. To qualify, the item must:

  • have been bought on decathlon.com less than 30 days ago;
  • be unused and in new condition with all tags attached;
  • be in its original packaging.

Decathlon is strict about condition. Its policy says used products, even lightly used, dirty products and items damaged by improper handling will not be accepted, and will be returned to you at your cost or donated. That matters for running shoes, which are easy to "test" outdoors; try them on indoors first.

What you cannot return

The policy lists several exceptions:

  • Safety and lifesaving equipment, including helmets, life jackets and climbing gear.
  • Undergarments and boxers.
  • Clearance and final sale items.
  • Gift cards.
  • Premium bikes, which follow their own rules (see below).

Items bought from other retailers cannot be returned to Decathlon's returns department, even if they are Decathlon brands. That is relevant for products like Van Rysel bikes that are also sold elsewhere: our report on the Van Rysel GRVL AF gravel bike recall covers bikes sold at REI, and our owner's guide to that recall explains what to do if you have one.

Free returns and shipping refunds

Decathlon says all non-clearance products qualify for free returns, except some large items like bikes, unless the product page says otherwise. Eligible items carry a "Free Returns" sticker on their product page. Original shipping charges are not refunded unless the return is due to Decathlon's error, such as a wrong or defective item, and if your order did not qualify for free shipping, that shipping cost is not refunded when you return it.

Premium bikes: the 15% restocking fee

A separate policy covers Decathlon's premium bike models and frames: all Van Rysel models, Riverside GCR, Triban GRVL 900 and Rockrider RACE 900S. For these:

  • Products must come back in their original packaging.
  • Bikes showing signs of assembly, use or wear are subject to a restocking fee of up to 15% of the original sale price, deducted from the refund. Decathlon says it will tell you about any fee and give you options.
  • You manage and pay for return shipping yourself.
  • Refunds follow an inspection; Decathlon asks you to allow 3 to 5 business days after the bike reaches its facility.
  • Bikes that come back damaged or missing parts will not be accepted, and you would have to pay shipping to get them back.

If your bike arrived damaged, Decathlon asks you to report it with photos through customer service rather than ship it back on your own.

Warranty: check each product page

Decathlon's warranty policy says every Decathlon product is supported by a limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship, but the length depends on the product. The policy tells you to look up the warranty period on the product page. Some examples from decathlon.com product listings: the Quechua NH500 Escape 23-liter hiking backpack lists a 10-year warranty, and Decathlon's "Unbeatable Prices" page says it guarantees bike frames, handlebars and stems for life.

Key points from the warranty policy:

  • Keep your receipt. Decathlon says you will need it to use your warranty rights.
  • Decathlon-branded products only. Non-Decathlon products are excluded, even if sold or packaged with a Decathlon product, as are counterfeits.
  • Exclusions include normal wear and tear; accident, neglect, abuse or misuse; exposure to extreme natural conditions, liquids or gases; damage from third-party handling such as airlines or postal services; repairs by anyone other than an authorized Decathlon representative; and unauthorized modifications.
  • Replacements are warranted only for the remainder of the original warranty period.
  • Shipping costs: you pay to send the product to the service center; Decathlon pays to send a repaired or replacement product back.
  • If it cannot be fixed or replaced with an identical item, Decathlon may substitute a product of the same price you choose, or give a credit note or refund.

To start a claim, contact customer service with your name, address, phone number, receipt, purchase date and photos or videos of the defect. Decathlon will tell you how to ship the item to its service center, which then decides whether it is repaired or replaced. Empty the pockets first; Decathlon is not responsible for items left inside.

How Decathlon compares with other sporting goods retailers

If you are weighing Decathlon against another sporting goods retailer, compare more than the sticker price: the free shipping minimum, which categories are non-returnable, who pays return shipping and how long the warranty runs can matter as much as the price on a jacket or bike. For a look at another retailer's loyalty program and return terms, see our DICK'S ScoreCard rewards guide or the Under Armour outlet shopping guide.

Before you order: a quick checklist

  • Make sure every item in the cart qualifies for free shipping if you are relying on it.
  • Confirm your address is in the contiguous US or DC.
  • Try clothing and shoes on indoors and keep the tags on until you are sure.
  • Check whether an item is clearance or safety gear, since both are non-returnable.
  • For premium bikes, decide before assembly if possible.
  • Read the warranty period on the product page and keep the receipt.
